Running Starts is a two-week, 90-minute online writing workshop designed to help you kickstart a new writing project—or jump back into one that’s been waiting for you.
Through fast-paced journal prompts, idea-generating exercises, and a few delightfully silly invitations, you’ll gather fresh material, uncover new angles, and rebuild momentum. We’ll move between focused writing sprints and partner shares to get you out of your head and into the productivity zone, with gentle structure and real-time encouragement. Writers of all genres and levels are welcome—come ready to begin (again).
2nd Annual Write-A-Thon
Join Emma at the downtown Portland Library for her 2nd Annual Write-A-Thon! There will be a new prompt every 15 minutes, with invitations to share your work aloud and chat with other writers. Drop in any time between 12-3pm.

A 90-minute creative writing workshop designed to help you shake off winter and step back into your creative rhythm. Open to both fiction and nonfiction writers, this session features seasonally inspired prompts, tailored craft exercises, and group discussion, all aimed at helping you brush off the cobwebs, run a few creative laps, and reconnect with the page—whether you’re returning to journaling, exploring a short story idea, or simply craving some quiet time with your thoughts. The workshop concludes with optional opportunities to share your work aloud. You'll also leave with some simple take-home tips to help you maintain a consistent writing practice beyond our time together.
